The City: Kuala Lumpur (or KL as it's popularly known), was founded in the mid-nineteenth century, making it the youngest Southeast Asian capital; it is also the most economically successful after Singapore.  The city is awash with stunning examples of modern architecture, not least the famous Petronas Towers - a must-visit for the spectacular views from the Skybridge, and the recently opened Museum of Islamic Arts. kuala_lumpurskyline.jpg

The city is safe and sociable, and with a population of nearly two million, it is exciting in the day and always buzzing with energy at night.  From a cultural standpoint, KL certainly has enough interesting monuments, galleries, markets and museums to keep visitors busy for at least a week.

Kuala Lumpur is a truly multicultural city, with Malays, Indians and Chinese making up the main races; Chinatown and Little India are ever-popular with visitors.  This mix of races means that eating out is a real gastronomic adventure.  The diverse and rich variety of food will excite one’s taste buds insatiably - spicy Malay food, an endless variety of Chinese delicacies, exotic cuisine from North and South India, as well as Nyonya, Thai, Japanese, Korean and Portuguese cuisine, plus irresistible seafood.  Western cuisine is also easily available.
